The Delegation of the Government of Melilla hosted this morning the zone coordination meeting of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), within the framework of the territorial structure that encompasses the Provincial Headquarters of Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla itself.
During the day, key issues related to the operability of the territorial structure of Traffic have been addressed, among them the rationalization of procedures, human resources and economic issues. “Our objective is to improve the quality of the public service we provide to citizens and optimize the functioning of our territorial headquarters,” explained the General Secretary of the DGT, María Lidón Lozano.
The meeting is part of the ongoing commitment of the DGT to strengthen coordination between its territorial units and advance in the reduction of accidents on Spanish roads.
Lozano was grateful for the warm welcome received from both the Government Delegation and the city. “They have shown us a city unknown to many, but pleasantly surprising to all,” he said.
One of the most emotional moments of the meeting was the tribute and farewell to José Carlos Romero, Local Head of Traffic in Melilla, who retires after 38 years of trajectory. “It has been a fundamental bulwark in the improvement of road safety in the territory,” said the Secretary General.
38 years of exemplary service
For her part, the Provincial Head of Traffic of Seville and responsible for the entire coordination area of the eight provinces of Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla, Ana Luz Jiménez, has made it clear that the meeting has had a technical character that aims to “improve procedures and strengthen the quality of the service we offer to citizens in terms of administration, mobility and road safety”.
Jiménez has highlighted the value of holding this meeting in Melilla, both because of its operational relevance and because of its symbolic charge: “We wanted to highlight the tireless work of José Carlos Romero, who says goodbye after 38 years of exemplary service. His contribution has been essential, unique and invaluable for the whole area.”
The day was attended by senior officials of the DGT, something unusual in this type of meetings, which reinforces the significance of the event. “We have had the honor of having our General Secretary, as well as those responsible for human resources, economic management and computer science, which demonstrates the level of recognition for the figure of José Carlos Romero and the importance that he has been wanted to give to this meeting,” Jiménez said clearly.
The head of area coordination also wanted to highlight the climate of collaboration and commitment between the different territorial chiefs and the central services, “essential to continue effectively developing our work throughout the territory.”
The meeting consolidates the commitment of the DGT to the continuous improvement of public service and cohesion between its different territorial units, especially in an area as diverse and extensive as that encompassing Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla.
