The Government Delegation in Melilla has hosted a training session aimed at first-year students of the Degree in Social Education of the University of Granada. The day was given by the Head of the Coordination Unit against Violence Against Women, Laura Segura.
This activity is part of the subject ‘Theory and Practice of Teaching in Social Education’, which includes gender violence as one of its practical contents. The group, composed of a dozen students, was accompanied by Professor Gloria Rojas, from the Department of Didactics and School Organization of the University of Granada.
During the training, Segura has addressed the functions of the Coordination Unit, as well as the main resources and tools of the public system for the protection of victims, including the 016 service, the ATENPRO program, the Cometa devices, and the ways of coordination between the General Administration of the State and local administrations.
In addition, it has delved into key issues such as the analysis of the different forms of violence against women and girls, the structural causes of male violence, and the importance of a correct interpretation of statistical data, stressing the need to always resort to official sources.
“It is essential that future professionals know how to identify and act in situations of male violence from their first contact with social reality,” said Segura, who has valued in a very positive way the interest and participation of students during the day.
