“A People’s Party leader said some time ago that lowering the 10,000 unemployed barrier would have a positive effect on citizenship. Not only have we broken that psychological barrier to which the People’s Party of 10,000 unemployed alluded, but this month we have 8,262 and, if we continue with that recruitment, we will be able to lower that barrier of 8,000.”
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has highlighted the decrease in the unemployment data recorded this April in Melilla, which is less and less than the 10,000 that were in 2018. However, he assured that “we will have to continue working on that path to stabilize employment and that these figures will be reflected in the city of Melilla”.
In this sense, he has highlighted that thanks to the labor reform, in our city we have gone from having 8% of indefinite hiring to reaching 40%. “We continue to bet on that stable employment and that quality employment,” he said.
In addition, the head of the Government Delegation has welcomed the decrease in the numbers of female unemployment, which has registered a decrease in 314 women; and also in youth unemployment, with 132 fewer unemployed young people.
31 million euros in Employment Plans
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in our city has made a positive assessment of the Employment Plan 2024-2025 that is being developed since March, with an allocation of 13 million euros to cover 1,290 people.
Thus, he explained that in April all the contracts of the first phase were formalized and that yesterday the second phase began with the publication of the first provisional list. In addition, he has anticipated that a second provisional list will emerge in the next few days.
But not only that, Sabrina Moh has highlighted the 5 million euros that the Government of Spain has made available to the City so that another Employment Plan can be carried out. “We are committed to the city of Melilla and we are going to reverse the loss of 5 million euros by the Autonomous City for not having executed the Employment Plans in time,” he said.
The Delegate has highlighted that, with the two Employment Plans of the Government Delegation and the one that will manage the local administration “we are talking about more than 30 million euros in salaries that are going to be destined here to Melilla, to the local economy”.
“We will continue to work on these active employment policies so that citizens can count on the Government of Spain to have the necessary tools to later have a place in the labor market,” he said.
Stable work
In her statement to the media, the Government Delegate has also referred to the improvement in stable and quality employment. Thus, he referred to the various Public Employment Offers that have been convened over these years and that “also come to contribute to that decrease in the fall in unemployment.”
In fact, he stressed that we are on the threshold of the next call for Education competitions, with a “significant number of places” that “come to improve public services and stable employment”. In the words of the Delegate, “they are salaries that have an impact on the economy of Melilla and also on improving the quality of public services in the city of Melilla”.
