The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, held a meeting with the National President of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), Ramón Reyes, to continue strengthening the ties of collaboration and continue improving the care of oncological patients in Melilla.
The meeting, which took place in the Provincial Directorate of Ingesa, was attended by the Territorial Director of Ingesa, Omar Haouari, and the Manager of the Health Area of Melilla, Alberto Romero; the President of the AECC of Melilla, Manuel Aznar, as well as the Corporate Director of Mission and Operations of the AECC, José María Campos; the Territorial Director of the AECC, Miguel Ángel Galindo; and the Director of Public Affairs of the AECC, Lucabouc.
The meeting addressed the importance of performing colon screenings since early diagnosis is key in the treatment of the disease and that is that more than 90% of cases of colon cancer can be overcome thanks to early diagnosis.
Precisely at this point, the need to sensitize citizens to the importance of performing colon screening has been addressed, especially when Melilla is below the national average in the number of people who undergo this type of test.
The meeting has also served to address other issues such as the support that the AECC provides to the melillenses with oncological processes that travel to the Hospital of Malaga, through its volunteers and the residences that the entity has in the Andalusian city; the importance of influencing young people in the risks of smoking, since 95% of smokers in our country start with this habit before the age of 18.
