“The investment we have been making since the Government of Spain represents an increase of 60% compared to the previous Government, the Government of the Popular Party.” The Delegate of the Government in Melilla, Sabrina Moh, has referred to the approval of the Royal Decree establishing the amounts of scholarships and study grants for the 2025-2026 academic year.
In this call, the amount destined for this purpose amounts to a total of 2,544 million euros, “we are talking about a new historical investment destined for this concept, with 1.1 billion euros more than in the 2017-2018 academic year”, he has put in value.
In the words of the highest representative of the Government of Spain in the city, “public education must also provide those tools, those mechanisms for equity, so that all students can have resources and access and develop their educational trajectory with equality.”
Therefore, it has given an account of the Central Executive’s eagerness to improve this aid, not only through the increase in the amount, but also through the improvement of the administrative procedure that, since 2023, is carried out with sufficient time so that the students can receive the money before the academic year begins, avoiding the “uncertainty that was generated of not knowing whether or not they were a grantee of a scholarship until the course was already advanced”.
News 2025-2026
The head of the Government Delegation has detailed some of the novelties of this call, among which is the increase in the fixed amount linked to the residence, which goes from 2,500 to 2,700 euros (+200 euros). In this way, the Government continues to improve the investment for this concept, which in the call 2023-2024 went from 1,600 to 2,500 euros and will now be 2,700 euros.
As a novelty, there is also full equality in the treatment for scholarship purposes of students of Higher Artistic Teachings with respect to the university, “something that is important and benefits our city”, he has made clear.
Impact in Melilla
All this, he stressed, has allowed the total number of scholarship holders in Spain to go from 784,422 in the 2017-2018 academic year to reach almost one million young people in the 2024-2025 competition.
But not only that, the Delegate of the Government has stressed that these scholarships benefit and have a positive impact on the city as well, digging up the statistics of the beneficiaries in Melilla during the previous call.
In the general announcement, 1,214 scholarships were granted in our city; book assistance, 6,444; special education, 615; dining room, 451; adapted transport, 18; and non-adapted transport, 51.
