The Provincial Director of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD) explained that, in order to “stimulate and recognize the effort of the Classical Greek Theatre groups of the educational centers, as well as to spread the reading and theatrical representation of the classic Greek works”, the Ministry has convened a new edition of this national competition.
Thus, as explained by the participating groups, they can opt for two modalities: Greek/Latin tragedy or comedy, for students of Compulsory Secondary Education, or short, original or adapted representations, of fables, dramatic, mythological or historical texts, for students of ESO and Basic Vocational Training.
The representation of the work will last between 15 or 20 minutes and must come from classical Greek or Latin authors or inspired by themes of classical Antiquity.
The awarding of prizes will depend on the modality. For the category of Greek/Latin tragedy, first prize 8,000 euros and second prize 3,000 euros, for Greek/Latin comedy, first prize 6,000 euros and second prize 2,000 euros and for short performances, first prize 4,000 euros and second prize 1,000 euros.
The jury will carry out the first phase of valuation using audiovisual recordings, among which the finalist groups will be selected. For the final phase, a theatre will be chosen that meets the conditions for the staging and the finalist groups will have to bear the costs of travel, accommodation, maintenance and accident insurance for the participating members and two accompanying adults.
The interested teaching centers must send the request telematically through the direction of the MEFPyD Virtual Office https://sede.educacion.gob.es before April 24th.
