“I would like to thank the men and women who are members of the National Police Force of Melilla for the work you carry out in this our land, to recognize the assistance you provide to those citizens who demand your services and the sensitivity, efficiency and professionalism with which you attend them and to value the great results in all your areas of action.”
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, in her speech at the institutional event that took place yesterday at the Sociocultural Equestrian Sports Center, on the occasion of the celebration of the 201th anniversary of the creation of the General Police of the Kingdom, historical precedent of the National Police, has stressed that the professionals of this body “have conquered a great social legitimacy by placing the citizenship, the entire Melilla citizenship, at the center of your actions.”
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in our city has expressed that it is right to recognize the work and effort of these professionals and “convey my sincere congratulations and publicly show you the support that you will continue to have of this Delegate of the Government because you are the ones that make it possible for us to celebrate so many years of history, but, above all, so much time of service and duty accomplished”.
“With those who preceded you, with your work and dedication, and with the new agents that, every year, are integrating and forming part of this laureate body, a robust foundation of an institution has been created that is called to have a promising future at the service of this country and this city,” he said.
Moh, who has encouraged them “to keep alive and growing your enthusiasm and sense of duty, your professional and dedication”, has reminded them that they can always continue to count on her and has conveyed to them, in the name of the Government of Spain, in that of the Ministry of the Interior and in his own, his congratulations on the celebration of the 201th anniversary and his best wishes for the present and the future, “which I am convinced will be full of achievements and successes”.
Dedication and sacrifice
The Delegate has made it clear that in today’s event “we celebrate not only the history of the creation of this Institution but also where we value, once again, the unwavering commitment of thousands of men and women who, throughout all these years, have dedicated their lives to the protection of citizenship and the service of our society.”
Thus, Moh recalled that, since its foundation in 1824, the National Police Corps has experienced a historical evolution, with different denominations and structures and in which it has been adapting to social, political and technological changes “with the aim, always, of guaranteeing not only the security and well-being of all citizens but also of continuing to contribute to making us one of the most complete democracies in the world and one of the safest States in the entire international sphere.”
But, the head of the Government Delegation, has stressed that her work, in the day-to-day, “goes beyond the mere application of the law.” “The women and men of the National Police fulfill the constitutional mandate to protect the free exercise of rights and freedoms and guarantee citizen security, but you are also an example of dedication and sacrifice.”
Thanks to this, he said, “you have become the Police of all and all Spaniards and, therefore, of all and all Melillenses so, on a day like today, we must continue to value your effort, professionalism, closeness and humanity”.
Work against hate speech
In her speech, Sabrina Moh made it clear that, as a society “we are increasingly aware that your work is always necessary”, but she stressed that “it becomes even more crucial in these times in which, unfortunately, hate speeches are emerging that we believed have already been overcome and that seek to dynamite the pillars on which our coexistence is based, such as freedom, plurality, equality, respect for diversity and social peace”.
Therefore, it has encouraged them to continue working with the same impetus, enthusiasm and dedication, “with the satisfaction of knowing that you have created a special link with our country and, of course, with our city and that it has its origin in values such as respect, commitment, loyalty and the vocation of public service that you show every day”.
In this regard, the Delegate has assured that the high degree of citizen security is one of the factors that has most contributed to strengthening our institutions “by allowing a model of peaceful and tolerant, accessible and inclusive social coexistence”. And, although this is a shared achievement, Moh has stressed the fundamental role played by national police officers in their daily work.
Acknowledgements and acknowledgements
The Delegate of the Government thanked “all of you who have made it a true vocation of public service to defend the fundamental values of our Constitution, to protect all citizens and guarantee our rights and freedoms during your professional career”.
In this chapter he has had words of affection and recognition for the retiring police officers to whom he has thanked “the legacy of honor, integrity and exemplary service that your actions have left in the history of the body and in the hearts of those whom you swore to protect.”
Moh has also dedicated special words of thanks and recognition to the family and friends of the agents “for being a basic and necessary pillar in their daily lives and providing them with the necessary support especially in the most difficult moments” as well as to the other administrations, institutions, agencies and entities that collaborate with the National Police in their daily lives “to continue improving the coordination ties necessary to obtain optimal results”.
The Delegate has taken advantage of this special and significant day to pay tribute to those who have given their lives in the performance of their duties. “His sacrifice will not be forgotten and his legacy will always have a prominent place in the history books of the national police,” he said. “From here all our affection and affection for family and loved ones,” he added.
Silent and effective work
The Suprior Chief of Police, José Antonio Togores, for his part, in his speech, highlighted the “constant evolution” that has consolidated the Corps “as a modern institution, close to the citizens, effective and solvent, composed of people committed to their profession, courageous and determined, loyal and responsible, who put the public good before the staff”.
“Our mission remains the same, to protect the freedom, rights and well-being of citizens to guarantee the defense of Spain and its constitutional principles and values, and to contribute, together with our partners and allies, to international security in compliance with the commitments made,” he said.
In the words of the Superior Chief, “we are not only looking to the past” because, “we are aware of the demands of a difficult, demanding, eminently digital and technical future, where criminals find new spaces in which they seek to act with impunity, but where they are much more harmful above all to the most vulnerable social groups, and which threaten progress, the fair distribution of consumer goods, solidarity and other rights that democratic society has won with effort and not little suffering.”
The event has served to pay tribute to an inspector and a policeman for their retirement and to pay tribute to all those people who gave their lives in the act of service with the placement of a corana of flowers in a monolith. An act that has counted on the anthem of the National Police and that ended with the anthem of Spain.
