At the end of November, the number of unemployed persons registered with the Public Service of State Employment (SEPE) of Melilla has decreased by 15 persons (-0.17%) compared to the previous month. In this way, the registered unemployment has decreased to 8,856 people in our city.
The Provincial Director of the SEPE, Jorge Vera, has valued this maximum data because he has considered it positive that the number of unemployed is reduced in the city when the Christmas campaign has not yet begun. A fact that he has assured, “makes us optimistic and makes us foresee that this path will continue.”
By economic sectors, the greatest decline has occurred in the construction sector, where there has been a decrease of 18 unemployed, followed by the services sector, where unemployment has fallen by two people, compared to the Agriculture sector and are former jobs where unemployment increases by two people each.
With regard to Social Security data, the number of participants increased by 122 (+0.49%) compared to last month and by 25 (+0.10%) compared to a year ago, raising the figure to 24,487 participants in Melilla. In particular, affiliation increases by 129 people in the general regime while it falls by four people in the Autonomous Government, and by two in the Sea regime.

The Provincial Director of the SEPE has highlighted the fact that of the 1,316 contracts that have materialized during the last month of November, 612 have been indefinite, which means 46.5%. This figure is 4.6 percentage points above the national average.
As Vera has detailed, in terms of registered unemployment, it refers, according to sex, to women with 5,705 unemployed, which represents 64.4%, compared to 3,151 unemployed men, which represents 35.6%. And, as far as minors under the age of 25 are concerned, there are 1,041 unemployed.
As far as unemployment benefits are concerned, in the autonomous city there are 3,226 beneficiaries either of contributory benefit (1,294 beneficiaries), Allowance (1,717 beneficiaries) or Active Insertion Income (215 beneficiaries) and the average amount received per beneficiary is 1,006.9 euros per month.
National data
The head of the Provincial Directorate of the SEPE has also echoed the national data, where, the number of unemployed people registered at the end of November has fallen by 16,036 people in relation to the previous month (-0.62%). The total number of unemployed and unemployed stands at 2,586,018 people, the lowest figure in a month of November since 2007.
In terms of economic sectors, the reduction in unemployment compared to October covers all economic sectors. It decreased in Services by 8,693 people (-0.46%), in Industry by 2,268 people (-1.12%), in Construction by 2,124 people (-1.08%), in Agriculture by 1,902 people (-2.17%) and, finally, among the Collective Without Previous Employment by 1,049 people (-0.43%).
With regard to unemployment by sex and age, female unemployment fell by 10,811 women (-0.69%) to a total of 1,556,800 in the month of November compared to the previous month.
Male unemployment stands at 1,029,218, falling by 5,225 people (-0.51%). Compared to November 2023, female unemployment fell by 88,293 (-5.37%) and male unemployment fell by 60,520 (-5.55%). Unemployment among young people under 25 years of age fell in November by 3,796 people (-1.89%) compared to the previous month, to 196,704.
The total number of contracts registered during the month of November was 1,301,482. Of these, 544,519 employment contracts are of an indefinite nature, accounting for 41.84% of all contracts, one more month underpinning the shift to stability in the labour market in Spain.
The beneficiaries and beneficiaries existing at the end of October were a total of 1,757,250 people. The coverage of the unemployment protection system during the month of October 2024 has been 72.17%, the highest since 2010.
