The Coordination Unit Against Violence Against Women of the Government Delegation in Melilla has organized the conference ‘Prevention and Tackling Gender Violence. The comprehensive law against gender violence: balance and challenges 20 years after its entry into force’.
A few days that will take place in the Command of the Civil Guard of Melilla on November 14, in tomorrow’s time, from 9.30h to 14.00h. This training is framed in the activities that the Government Delegation has scheduled for the month of November, around the International Day for the Elimination of Gender Violence.
The Head of the Coordination Unit Against Violence against Women of the Government Delegation in Melilla, Laura Segura, explained that during the day “issues of interest for prevention and for addressing and acting in the face of this serious structural violation of Human Rights will be addressed”.
“We will try to deepen the local reality, as well as generate spaces for exchange, and that involve the resolution of doubts and the creation of alliance networks for collaboration,” he said.
Structure of the Journey
On this day, two individual conferences will be offered and will be closed with a space of colloquium with the attendees and with speakers from the institutions linked to the fight against gender violence.
The first lecture will be given by Macarena Baena Garrido, journalist of the EFE Agency and head of Efeminista – multimedia project of Equality of the EFE Agency.
Next, Miguel Lorente Acosta, professor of Legal Medicine at the University of Granada and Forensic Doctor, and Government Delegate for Gender Violence (2008-2011), will offer the second conference of the day.
Preventing and addressing gender-based violence
Laura Segura has stressed that the main objectives of this training are to meet the demand for training, retraining and specialization, so necessary, of the professionals involved in the fight against gender violence, but also to contribute to the awareness and training of the rest of society.
The day, open to citizens in general, is aimed especially at training in gender violence and State Security Forces and Local Police, Health, Legal and Educational Professionals, Social Services, Entities, etc., for all administrations and entities working locally in this field.
“The training of professionals is essential to continue moving towards the ultimate goal of protecting the human rights of women and girls and achieving full equality,” he stressed.
