The Imserso plans to carry out improvements in the Senior Citizens Social Center of our city to adapt them to the demand and the new realities that are taking place in society.
The Territorial Director of the Imserso de Melilla, Verónica Aznar, in an interview granted to Onda Cero, explained that they plan, for the year 2025, to start a work to expand this center of daytime stays and thus be able to incorporate more places. “The facilities are becoming smaller due to the significant influx of people but also due to the profile of the same,” he said.
“Now we need to expand the daytime center and it is one of the projects that we have pending next year, start the construction project and expand that area of Day Center. It works so well,” he announced.
Aznar has taken the opportunity to thank all the people who work in the Imserso centres for their professional involvement. “Thanks to all the professionals who have that sensitivity with this important group,” he stressed.
Agreement with the AECC
In another order of things, Aznar has referred to the Agreement that Imserso and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) of Melilla signed in May for the use of a bank of technical aids for oncological patients.
“In the different meetings we have had with the AECC and Palliatives, they showed us the deficiency that they found each time they went to the home of a person who was already receiving palliative care and who needed technical assistance in conditions,” he recalled.
“They expressed that concern, that situation, and we decided to work with them in a technical aid agreement, thanks to which we have not only given them articulated beds, wheelchairs, folding tables, walkers, crutches and all the technical aids that we had and that we could give in to them, but also we have given them the use of the facilities of the Personal Autonomy Service, which is right in front of the AECC,” he explained.
“We have established the protocol of how the control of these technical aids would be established, how they are provided, who carries out the maintenance, how it is done and so on,” he said, noting that the entity “has a schedule, they have a key, they have the disposition of two complete rooms, where they have a volunteer staff that reviews what is delivered… and, in the end, it is a very important resource.”
“We know how expensive the acquisition of technical aids is and we are aware of the circumstances of Melilla, because sometimes we want to buy something and it takes time to arrive. There are situations that surpass us and that are from one day to the next and that families are in a situation of uncertainty,” he said. Therefore, it has valued this agreement that “is agile”. “In a period of one or two days they have the technical help and all they have to do is contact the AECC,” he said. “It represents an improvement in the quality and attention that this group deserves,” he said.
As Aznar has said, an accessibility cabinet was created in the Senior Citizens’ Residence with technical aids from the center that were also at the service of the citizens, but management, by the type of procedure to be completed, is slower.
Week of the Mayor
During the radio interview, Aznar has advanced that throughout these days the Imserso is going to celebrate Senior Citizens’ Week both in the Polyvalent Center and in the Senior Citizens’ Center for what has put value to the elderly “for everything they contribute to us”, as well as to those who care for them and protect them “with so much affection and professionalism” as are the women and men who work with them daily.
“We try to ensure that the activities are intercommunicated and that the people of the Multipurpose Center participate in the activities of the Social Center for the Elderly and vice versa,” he said. “They are not two independent centers, and in the same way that we make La Gota de Leche participate in the activities, they are invited to the different workshops that are held,” he explained.
Thus, a plaque will be delivered to the elderly people of the center, the staff that has been linked to the Imserso and the care of the elderly for 25 years is also recognized. “It is a special week where there are pastry activities, recognitions, music, workshops, exhibition of crafts and culture that the users of the Day Center do…”, he said.
