The average pension in Melilla of the Social Security system amounts to 1,222 euros in this month, 5.33% more than a year ago, two percentage points above the national average.
In Melilla there are a total of 8,784 pensioners, of whom 4,120 are women. In addition, 1,292 of the total pensions belong to a permanent disability, 4,417 to retirement, 2,255 to widowhood, 796 to orphanhood and 24 to family members.
In our city, the average permanent disability pension is 1,292.21 euros; the retirement pension is 1,524.11 euros; the widow's pension is 894.42 euros; the orphan's pension is 382.85 euros; and the family's pension is 792.47 euros.
According to August data, 759 pensions in our city have the complement to reduce the gender gap. The average monthly amount of this supplement in the pension is 81 euros, more than 10 euros above the national average. Of the total number of supplementary pensions, 161 are pensioners with one child; 256 of the beneficiaries, with two children; 181 are pensioners with three children and 159 are pensioners with four children.
This supplement, in force since February 2021, consists of a fixed amount, after the revaluation applied in 2024, of 33.20 euros per month per child. It is requested at the same time as the pension is requested.

In the country as a whole, the average pension of the Social Security system amounts to 1,256.7 euros this month and the monthly payroll of contributory Social Security pensions reached 12,828.7 million euros last August
Per pension class, three quarters of the contributory pension payroll corresponds to retirement pensions, as usual. Specifically, these pensions account for 73.1% of the payroll, 9,378.6 million euros. A total of Euro2,110.9 million has been earmarked for widows ' pensions, while the payroll for permanent disability benefits amounts to Euro1,133.2 million; the payroll for orphans amounts to Euro171.8 million; and the payroll for family benefits amounts to Euro34.3 million.
Of the 10.2 million contributory pensions paid, 6.5 million are retirement pensions, 2.4 million are widows ' pensions, and the rest are permanent disability pensions (974,169), orphanhood (341,987) and family pensions (46,196). The number of pensions is growing at a year-on-year rate of 1.4%.
In August, the number of pensioners was 9.2 million. Of these, 4.7 million are men and 4.6 million are women. The proportion of pensions per pensioner is maintained at 1.1 benefits per person.
The retirement pension is the main one for 6.4 million people. Of these, 60 per cent are men; in the case of the widow ' s pension, of the 1.5 million people who receive it as the main benefit, 96 per cent are women. On the other hand, there are 969,706 permanent disability recipients, 323,891 orphans and 45,619 family allowances.
The amount of the average retirement pension, for its part, is 1,444.3 euros. By system, the average retirement pension from the General System is 1,602.8 euros per month, while the lowest is registered by the Special System of Self-Employed Persons, with 964.2 euros.
In Coal Mining, the average monthly retirement is 2,805.2 euros, and it is 1,600.1 euros in the Regime of the Sea. The average amount of new retirement increases in the system amounted in the month of June 2024 (last data) to 1,559.4 euros per month. In August, the average widow’s pension, for its part, reached 897.3 euros per month.
Of the new increases in the first 7 months of the year (201,260), the number of early retirements is significantly reduced and is below 30% of the total (28.5%), they are 57,374; while in 2019 they were 40%. 71.5% acceded with ordinary age (143,835). In addition, 9.9% of those discharged correspond to the delayed retirement modality, compared to 4.8% in 2019. It should be remembered that since 2022, new incentives for delay have been in place and the framework for early retirement has also been reconfigured.
The average settlement time for the files in July (last available) was 9.29 days in the case of the retirement pension and 9.45 days in the case of widows’ pensions. It must be taken into account that the maximum period of resolution in these procedures, according to RD 286/2003 of March 7 and RD 1192/2021, of August 3, is 90 days in both retirement and widow’s benefits.
For its part, the monthly pension payroll of Passive Classes amounted to 1,575.4 million euros in the month of July (last available data). This figure represents an increase of 104.7 million euros compared to the previous year, 7.1% more.
The number of pensions in force was 710,914, which is 15,190 more pensions than in the same month of the previous year (2.2% annual variation).
The Passive Class System of the State includes primarily military and civilian personnel of the General Administration of the State, the Administration of Justice, the General Courts and other constitutional or State bodies, as well as officials transferred to the autonomous communities.
