More than 2,300 melillenses have already registered in the Junior Summer program to travel by train and bus with discounts of up to 90%

• Discounts apply to one-way and round-trip tickets for travel through Spain and Europe until 30 September 2024

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has reported that the Junior Summer 2024 program has already exceeded 2.2 million people registered to travel by train and bus in Spain and Europe with discounts of up to 90%, of which 2,311 are from Melilla.

The Ministry headed by Oscar Puente has activated discounts to make it easier for young people between the ages of 18 and 30 to travel by public transport this summer, both in Spain and in Europe.

The rebates will be applied to single and return tickets for State-owned trains and buses and Interrail passes that are scheduled to travel between July 1 and September 30, 2024.

How to register?

Spaniards and foreigners with legal residence in Spain, born between 1994 and 2006, can register at any time on the form on the website of the Ministry to obtain the personal and non-transferable code with which to buy discount tickets to operators for travel between July 1 and September 30, 2024. The registration must be made at least 24 hours before purchasing the first ticket.

Young people must use qualified electronic certificates, such as the Cl@ve system, or enter the name and surname (as stated in the ID or NIE), the date of birth and the number of the ID, together with the date of validity, or the NIE, together with the support number of the EU Citizen Register or the Alien Identity Card (TIE) as appropriate, as well as the nationality and municipality of residence.

The code, consisting of the ID number or NIE and a set of characters, will be sent to the mobile or email provided in the event that the young person meets all the required requirements. The code is valid for the entire period and all means of transport included.

Discounts

The bonuses will be applied on the price of single or round trip tickets that have a date for travel between July 1 and September 30, 2024.

In this way, the sales remain as follows:

• 90% discount on conventional half distance and metric wide network services.

• 50% discount on simple Avant titles.

• Discount of 50%, with a maximum of 30 euros per ticket, for long-distance or high-speed commercial services of all railway operators.

• Discount of 90% for regular bus services of state competition.

• 50% discount on Interrail’s Global Flexible for 10 days in 2 months, when marketed through Renfe. The discount applies to Interrail’s official rates, with their price characteristics according to age, etc.

It will not be part of the price of the discounted ticket to settle all charges for cancellation or change, issuance, fees, baggage or any other aspect accessory to transport. Así, si el usuario anula el viaje deberá asumir posibles cargos de cancelación.

Conditions and sanctions

A number of conditions have been set to prevent the improper use of discounted tickets.

For example, the use of the Registration Code by a person other than the registered beneficiary will be punished directly. Thus, it will be considered that the person who intends to travel does not have a valid ticket and fines of up to 750 euros may be imposed in the case of rail transport and up to 200 euros in the case of bus transport. Not in vain, this Code is personal and non-transferable.

For its part, the Ministry may proceed with the withdrawal from the Registration Code of beneficiary persons who accumulate more than six detected improper uses, whether in rail or road transport.

In advance, the company will warn of each misuse by sms message to the mobile phone or registered email and of the possible consequences of its action.

The following cases are considered to be misuse:

• Do not cancel a formalized and non-completed trip with a minimum of 24 hours in advance. The company will be able to reduce this time in accordance with its usual marketing and sales practices.

• In the case of state bus lines, the concessionaire company will be able to reduce this period of 24 hours on short trips in which most of the trips respond to a mandatory mobility. Thus, the change of ticket on this type of route will not be considered improper use.

• Violate the established condition that the code is personal and non-transferable.

The reservation in the same railway or bus company of more than one round trip per day for the same origin-destination will be prevented, unless the trip has been previously made or cancelled.
