The Board of Directors of SEPES, the Public Enterprise Land Entity attached to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda (MIVAU), has approved the acquisition to the Ministry of Defense of 3,436 m² of the Gabriel de Morales Quartering for 10,287,000 euros for the construction of some 223 affordable homes.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, Isabel Rodríguez, announced this acquisition this morning and pointed out that the government headed by Pedro Sánchez “will make an effort to make public land available for affordable housing.”
The land, which until now was owned by Defensa, will be destined, as approved in the Council of Ministers of 9 May 2023, to promote urban development and the promotion of affordable housing.
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has valued this action, which is included in the Affordable Rental Housing Plan (PVAA), and which “will provide public land for the development of public protection housing and contribute to guaranteeing the constitutional right to enjoy decent and adequate housing throughout the territory.”
“In Melilla there are many young people and families who have a problem of access to housing and who need a solution”, he said and pointed out that “we want to make access to housing a real right and for this the Government of Pedro Sánchez is putting measures on the table”.
“Affordable housing is a priority of this Government that is taking steps to provide clear and effective solutions to our citizens,” said the top representative of the Government of Spain in our city.
