The Government Delegation hosted yesterday a meeting of the Territorial Coordination Committee of Operation Paso del Angolo (OPE) with the aim of analyzing and assessing ‘Operation Exit’, framed within the OPE, as well as to continue coordinating the work for ‘Operation Return’, which this year begins on July 13.
A meeting that has served to take stock of the data of the influx of passengers and vehicles that have arrived in the city, whose maximum peak has been reflected in the first ten days of the operation. In addition, there has been an increase in the number of passengers and vehicles on all routes compared to the year 2023.
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has pointed out that so far no incident of special relevance has been contemplated and has pointed out the increase of services made available to the citizens.
The provision of water points, shade and baths for the citizens for the waits, as well as the pocketing areas of the vehicles have been, as on other occasions, topics discussed.
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in Melilla has explained that during the meeting the conditioning of the entire area of the Maritime Station, the pre-shipments and shipments, as well as the different services in the Maritime Station and the Port of Melilla has been discussed. He stressed that the timetables of shipowners and pre-shipment areas have been coordinated, “counting on a greater advance to respond to a significant influx of vehicles.”
With regard to health issues, he referred to the health care service set up by the Ingesa in the port 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, until the end of the OPE, and to External Health, with the boat inspections that have been carried out correctly.
The Maritime Station and the Port Authority are being responsible for adapting the spaces intended for shipments and pre-shipments and passenger areas, with the installation of tents in the pre-shipment area. The station will be open 24 hours a day during the month of August. In addition, the Navieras will have a reinforcement during the weekends.
Another aspect has been the conditioning of the spaces of the Maritime Station to give ease and have greater comfort for people who need to use their spaces and services. “As every year, a prayer area has been set up within the Maritime Station so that people who wish to do so have a suitable place to do so,” he explained.
