The average pension of the Social Security system in Melilla amounts to 1,222.95 euros this month, 5.58% more than a year ago, according to data released today by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration.
This average corresponds to the amount of the different types of pension, that is, retirement, permanent disability, widowhood, orphanhood and in favor of relatives and in our city there are 8,708 people who receive some type of pension. In June, in addition, along with the ordinary payroll, pensioners are paid the extra pay.
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has stressed the importance of citizens receiving an adequate pension and that it is increased according to the increase in the cost of living. “The government that presides over Pedro Sánchez will continue to do what it has done during these 6 years: continue dignifying pensions,” he said.
In addition, the Social Security Reserve Fund, popularly known as the ‘pension fund’, which ended 2023 with 5,578 million euros, has received contributions so far this year worth 1,373 million euros, thanks to the Intergenerational Equity Mechanism, which entered into force in 2023, so that, as of May 31, it has reached 7,022 million euros, the highest level since 2018, and, as announced by Minister Elma Saiz, predictably, when the legislature ends in 2027, the fund will have 25 billion euros.
The head of the Government Delegation recalled that the Executive of the PP was dedicated to impoverishing pensioners, increasing pensions by 0.25% every year without taking into account the increase in the CPI and, in addition, he stole the pension fund, given that the Government of Rajoy “inherited” from the Zapatero Government a Reserve Fund with 66.815 million euros and the people, in 6 years, emptied 90% of it.
For this reason, Moh has made it clear that, thanks to the policies and measures being carried out by the Sánchez Government, “pensions are guaranteed and a pensioner charges, on average, 321 euros more per month than in 2018”. “In all these years, the average pension has increased by 29%,” he said.
