The Minimum Vital Income (IMV) payroll in May reached 2,661 households in Melilla in which 10,660 people live, according to the latest statistics published by the National Social Security Institute (INSS). The average amount of the benefit is 593.33 euros per household and, overall, this month’s payroll has amounted to 1,987,789.44 euros.
In the month of May, there are 521 active benefits more than there were a year ago, which means an increase of 24.35%. There are also more beneficiaries, since 2,218 beneficiaries live in these households more than those registered in May 2023, 26.27% more.
In cumulative terms since June 2020, when this benefit was launched, in the midst of a pandemic, the Minimum Vital Income has reached 3,991 homes and protected the 15,898 people who are part of them. Almost half of them are children and adolescents, in particular 7,974, or 50.1% of the total.
Since the entry into force of this policy, Social Security has allocated 61.5 million euros to pay the payroll of the IMV benefits in Melilla.
The Minimum Vital Income is a benefit aimed at preventing the risk of poverty and social exclusion of people who live alone or are integrated into a coexistence unit and lack basic economic resources. In addition, one of its main objectives is to address child poverty.
