The Coordination Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Delegation in Melilla and Doctors of the World will give a training day aimed at all teachers in the city on ‘Prevention and Attention to Sexual Violence Against Children and Adolescents’.
The conference, organized by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD) through the Educational Programs Unit (UPE), will take place from 22 to 24 April from 17:00 to 21:00 hours in the facilities of the UPE and will have a total of twelve hours. The interested parties have until the next 17 April deadline to register for it.
As explained by the Head of the Unit, Laura Segura, the objective of the entity of which she is the owner as well as of Doctors of the World, is none other than to improve the tools and capacities of the professionals in the educational field, for the prevention and approach of the different gender violence.
“Teachers who work in the direct care of vulnerable populations represent a key figure in identifying cases of sexual and gender violence, assessing the specific needs of those who suffer it, strengthening assistance, and deriving resources,” he said.
For this reason, he added, “from the educational level we have a privileged position to be able to detect and intervene in the eradication and detection of possible cases of victims of sexual exploitation, trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation or forced marriages, providing them with tools and knowledge to be able to act in the most effective way and protection for the victims.”
Improve detection and prevention
The objectives of these conferences include improving the knowledge of professionals who come into contact with potential victims about different gender violence from a gender and human rights perspective, strengthening professional capacities in the detection and treatment of cases of sexual exploitation and trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation and forced marriages, as well as improving the detection and prevention of forced marriages and sexual exploitation of the teaching team.
In this context, the contents to be addressed will range from the conceptualization of gender violence to the types that exist. Thus, it will deal with the conceptual framework, types of male violence and characteristics; the reality of gender violence in figures; the cycle of violence in the context of the couple and former couple; the causes of gender violence among adolescents and consequences, prevention and resources; forced marriages or the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents as well as trafficking, among other topics.
In addition to the Head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women, the conference will feature as speakers the Psychologist of Doctors of the World in Melilla, Lourdes Gómez Montesinos, and the Coordinator of Doctors of the World in Melilla, Silvia Madejón Bados.
