At the end of March, the number of unemployed persons registered with the Public Service of State Employment (SEPE) of Melilla rose by 48 persons (0.5%) compared to the previous month. In this way, the registered unemployment has stood at 8,817 people in our city.
As explained by the Provincial Director of the SEPE, Jorge Vera, half of the new job seekers - 24 people - belong to the category without previous employment. An increase that usually occurs, every year, coinciding with the beginning of the Employment Plans.
In addition, although he recalled that, for Melilla, March historically has not been a good month for employment, our city today has 1,511 unemployed less than when the PP ruled.
Not only that, in terms of affiliation to Social Security, Melilla has 24,550 members, which means 197 members (0.8%) more than the previous month. Of this number of members, 20,172 are from the general regime, 4,291 are autonomous and 89 belong to the regime of the sea.
Good affiliation figures that are extrapolable to the whole country, where the figure has risen to 3.3 million members, which means that Spain reaches 21 million members of Social Security for the first time in history.
As for the contracts that have been closed during the last month in our city, the figure amounts to 1,255, which means 86 more (7.3%) than in February, but, above all, Vera has valued that more than a third of them (464) are indefinite contracts.
“Before the entry into force of the Labor Reform of the Government of Pedro Sánchez, indefinite contracts represented only 8% in our country. In the month that we have just finished, they have involved 37% of the contracts of our city and 45% nationwide,” he said.
“Two years after the entry into force of the labor reform, its positive effects are accentuated in the stabilization of employment and the improvement of its quality,” he said and pointed out that the commitment of the Government of the Nation “is to continue working to achieve the goal of creating the maximum possible, stable and quality employment.”
As for unemployment benefits, there are 3,392 Melillenses who benefit from them, either by contributory benefit (1,354), unemployment benefit (1,874) or active income (164), and whose average amount per beneficiary is 969 euros per month.
