The Government Delegate, Sabrina Moh, has advanced her intention to convene the Air and Maritime Transport Working Group for next week.
“At the meeting to establish the Working Group, we agreed on the creation of two subcommittees – one for air transport and one for the sea – and I would like to inform you that we are planning to start them next week, as soon as we agree with all the agents involved on the availability of dates,” he announced.
A working group, added the Delegate, will address issues such as possible improvements to be made to reduce cancellations as well as measures to continue improving the quality of service.
Precisely Moh has highlighted steps that are materializing such as the extension of the airport hours that begins today, “something that demanded not only the citizens but also the very groups that worked at the airport.”
An important advance, he added, which means “de facto increasing frequencies, so Melillense citizens will have other more comfortable travel options”.
Not only that, the Delegate recalled that the Secretary General of Air and Maritime Transport, Benito Núñez, has already announced that work is going to be done to reduce costs, establishing maximum fares for tickets on the air route between our city and Madrid. Something that will not only benefit the people of Melilla, but also serves to promote tourism “to this wonderful city that everyone should know”.
On precisely this issue, Sabrina Moh has stressed that the tool with which the Government is going to work is with the establishment of a Public Service Obligation (PSO) of maximum price limitation. “The service has been greatly improved and what we have, as a weak point, are the rates, to reduce those prices, we want to launch a pilot project, where we will participate both with one destination in the Balearic Islands and with another in the Canary Islands,” he said.
A pilot project, he said, since “we will have to assess what the repercussions are, what this OSP means with a maximum rate for the Madrid line and then do an evaluation, an analysis and check the results to continue improving”.
