More than 6,000 students from Melilla will be able to benefit from the scholarships for post-compulsory studies organized by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD), as reported by the Provincial Director of Education, Juan Ángel Berbel.
“At the state level it has an estimated budget of 2,520 million euros and with respect to the previous Executive, it represents an increase of 70%,” he said and pointed out that the average amount of this aid will be 1,730 euros for non-university students and 3,130 euros for university students.
“The Government is firmly committed to the social dimension of education and to promoting a policy of scholarships and study grants that ensures that no student abandons their post-compulsory studies for economic reasons, thus ensuring social cohesion and equal opportunities,” he added.
On this issue, Berbel pointed out that thanks to a significant increase in the funding of the scholarship and study aid system, “important reform measures have been undertaken in recent courses in the scholarship model aimed, among other things, at facilitating access to scholarships for a wider range of students; increasing the amount of certain components of scholarships; and making the academic requirements for obtaining scholarships more flexible.”
Fixed and variable amounts
As he explained, in today’s Official State Gazette (BOE), the call for general scholarships for the academic year 2024-2025 has been published for students who study post-compulsory studies.
These scholarships are intended for students who, in the academic year 2024-2025, take post-compulsory education valid throughout the national territory.
Students who do not exceed a certain income and/or family patrimony, who meet certain requirements of academic achievement and who are studying post-compulsory and higher non-university education in the Spanish educational system and valid throughout the national territory may apply for the scholarships of this call.
Scholarships for the completion of studies corresponding to the third cycle or doctorate, specialization studies or university degrees are not included in this call.
According to Berbel, the application must be completed through the form accessible electronically through the Department’s electronic headquarters at the address https://sede.educacion.gob.es or at https://www.educacionyfp.gob.es.
Once the application has been completed, it must be signed by the interested party or his legal representative in the case of being under 18 years of age with any of the electronic signature systems accepted by the electronic headquarters and sent by the established telematic procedure, thus being presented for all purposes.
The deadline for submitting the scholarship application will be from March 19 to May 10 of this year, at 24.00 Peninsular Time, both inclusive.
The scholarships are structured in fixed and variable amounts. As for the first ones, there is a scholarship for university students whose amount d will cover the amount of the credits that the student has registered for the first time in the academic year 2024-2025. Another fixed amount is linked to the student’s income and will involve 1,700 euros for both university and non-university students. The fixed amount of scholarships is linked to the student’s residence during the school year, which amounts to 2,500 euros for both university and non-university students.
Continuing with the fixed-amount scholarships is the scholarship linked to academic excellence, the amount of which ranges from 50 to 125 euros for both university and non-university students; and the basic scholarship for non-university students of 300 euros. In the case of the fellows who study Basic Degree Training Cycles this amount will be 350 euros.
With regard to the variable and different amount for the different applicants, it will result from the weighting of the average grade of the student’s file and his or her family income and the minimum amount of which will be 60 euros.
The interested party can consult the status of processing of their application in the electronic address https://sede.educacion.gob.es, in the section ‘My files’. Likewise, interested parties may contact the scholarship unit of the educational administration or corresponding university identifying themselves as interested in the file with their NIF/NIE.
