The number of unemployed persons registered in the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), at the end of December 2023 has decreased in Melilla by 198 (-2.27%) compared to the previous month, which leaves the number of job seekers in our city at 8,531.
In addition, in the year-on-year comparison, the number of unemployed is reduced by 408 (-4.56%).
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has highlighted the fall in unemployment which, in fact, represents 1,797 fewer unemployed in the city than when the Popular Party ruled. “The commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez is to continue working in this same line in order to achieve the goal of creating the maximum possible and quality employment,” he said.
Regarding the contracts signed during the past month, the city has registered 1,271, of which 41%, or 529, have been indefinite.
A fact that the head of the Government Delegation has put in value because it shows that the labor reform approved by the Executive of Pedro Sánchez “has contributed to labor stability in our city and in the country as a whole.”
“The government’s goal has always been to create jobs that are stable and of quality. There is a lot of work to be done but we are on the right track,” he said, and recalled that, before the labor reform, indefinite contracts represented only 8% in our country.
In response to Social Security, the number of participants increased in the month that has just ended by 279 (1.14%), leaving a total of 24,741. These are 544 (2.25%) affiliates more than a year ago.
For all these reasons, Moh has pointed out that the data show a very positive evolution in which not only is employment created, but the employment that is created is stable and of quality.
Finally, he also referred to unemployment benefits, given that there are 3,423 beneficiaries in Melilla, of whom 1,235 receive the contributory benefit; 1,985 receive the allowance; and 203 receive the active income for inclusion. The average amount of the benefit received per beneficiary per month in our city amounts to 961.4 euros.
