Unemployment fell by 398 people in our city last April (-4.83) and reduces the number of job seekers to 7,834, according to data released this morning by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy.
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, welcomed the decrease in unemployment in our city and highlighted the good progress of the economy in the city, which is translating into job creation, as well as the active employment policies that have been implemented by the different administrations and that are contributing to the access to the labor market of the Melillenses.
“April leaves us very positive data for the labor market: employment grows, unemployment is reduced and indefinite hiring is consolidated,” said the highest representative of the Government of the Nation in our city.
In this sense, he has taken stock of the evolution of employment in Melilla during this legislature, and has recalled that today there are 2,494 unemployed in our city less than when the PP ruled.
Moh has also referred to the contracts that have been signed during the past month, which have amounted to 1,464, of which almost a third have been indefinite.
“Thanks to the labor reform, the number of indefinite contracts is reaching high levels and confirms that we are facing a structural change in the labor market,” he said, and reported that, in terms of the data accumulated since the beginning of the year, 40% of the contracts that have been signed in Melilla have been indefinite.
Historical April
Good data that, both locally and nationally, are translated into historical figures of affiliation to Social Security. Thus, in the whole of Spain, “job creation plays an historic role”, he said, given that “there have never been so many people working so far, with 20.6 million people who contribute to Social Security throughout the national territory, while, with 25,114 members of Social Security, in Melilla, a record figure materializes, for the second consecutive month”.
Finally, Sabrina Moh has reported that in Melilla there are 2,792 beneficiaries of unemployment benefits, of which 1,075 receive the Contributory Benefit; 1,533, the Subsidy; and 184, the Active Income of Insertion. The average amount received is 965 euros per month per beneficiary.
