The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has valued the work, dedication and commitment of the workers of the Multipurpose Center of Services for Older People; the exemplification, strength and improvement of the users; and the contribution, support and understanding of the families of the residents: “Together you have managed to make this center a real home.”
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in our city went to an auditorium in which residents, workers and managers of the center of the last decade and a half were in an act that has put the finishing touch to a month of activities in commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the launch of the Senior Citizens Residence in our city.
“Institutions and society as a whole have a huge debt to our elders,” said Moh, who recalled that the elderly “have given everything for us.” “The level of development, the advancement in well-being and, ultimately, the level of quality of life we enjoy today is, to a large extent, thanks to their work, their dedication and their sacrifice,” he acknowledged.
For this reason, he stressed that “our obligation, our duty, for justice, but also for conviction, is to try to give back to our elders everything they have given us, all the love, experience, work and support they have given us throughout their lives”.
In her speech, the Delegate stressed that our elders are “a very valuable asset”, and therefore assured that the Government is working in all aspects and policies “to “give back everything we have received”.

The Territorial Director of the Imserso, Verónica Aznar, for her part, has stressed that “the greatest heritage of our society, our roots and identity as melillenses are our greatest”, whom she has described as “protagonists of this story that since 2008 we began to write together”.
“You are the ones who serve as a shelter for the treasure of our memory. And now it is time to adorn your journey as you deserve, because the roots of all that we are, are at the basis of the appreciation of all that you have given us,” he said.
Aznar, in his words, wanted to make it clear that “today and always, protagonists of our history, of our day to day, of our Residence”, but he has also had words of praise for the relatives: “In this story that we interweave together, with the institutionalization of the lives of our elders, family members must continue to be their greatest emotional support. It is crucial that they continue to maintain social interactions with their support network. It is therefore necessary to be attentive to their needs and demands in order to give them our full support and collaboration,” he said.
In this sense, the Territorial Directorate has advanced that “we will continue to bet and strengthen the coordinated work that facilitates the expression of affections and manages to create a climate of fluid and sincere communication between residents, families and professionals”, while ensuring that “the objective must be that the family system interacts with the institutional from the point of collaboration and participation”.
Aznar, in her speech, admitted that she is proud to recognize all the people who have been building the Residence “from those who fought at the institutional level for the construction and creation of such a valuable resource, as well as the countless professionals who from their beginnings until now give themselves up in the care of the resident with a dedication and affection that not only mitigates in many cases their condolences but comforts them, creating with them very special ties.”
“My admiration, affection and respect to all those who have formed and today you are part of this beautiful family formed by residents, a wonderful team of professionals, family, colleagues and colleagues from the Autonomous City, Government Delegation and Territorial Directorates, companies, organizations and collaborating associations, volunteering… We need you to grow and create,” he said.
Residents reading
The event has been a tribute to the residents themselves, so users of the center have climbed to the stage of the center’s Assembly Hall to read writings they have prepared, such as Lucinda Infante, accompanied by her daughter, who has excited the auditorium with some beautiful words while images of her painted paintings were projected; Juan Garbín, whose writing has proceeded to read the Director Centro Base Melilla, Teresa Rizo, in which she has recognized the role of the center’s workers; or Juana López, who has also shared with the attendees a beautiful text.
Today’s day has also been the day of recognition to the previous and present territorial directors and managing directors of the Residence “for the footprint that each of them has left as they pass through the center and in gratitude for their dedication and involvement”.
Thus, the former Territorial Directors Francisca Coll, Isabel Quesada and José Ramón Moya have been honored; the current head of the Imserso, Verónica Aznar; the Assistant Director General of the entity, José Santé; the former directors Maribel Pintos, Diego Cobos and Javier Calderón; the Heads of Area, Rosa Yebra, Celia Alonso and Montserrat Guerrero; and the current acting director Ana Lopéz, some of whom, for different reasons could not be present today.
Today’s event was attended by civil and military authorities, including the Councilor for Social Policies, Francisca García Maeso; the Secretary General of the Government Delegation, Sana Abdeslam; the Head of the Unit Against Gender Violence, Laura Segura; the aforementioned Director Base Melilla, Teresa Rizo; or the Director of the Social Center for Older People, Ramón Paqué, among others.
