The Territorial Director of IMSERSO, Verónica Aznar, regretted that the PP has tried to generate a social alarm and question the professionalism of the workers of the Multipurpose Center for Services for Older People, better known as the Residence of Older People.
In an interview given to Televisión Melilla, the head of IMSERSO in our city, she has asked that the residents of the Center be taken away from the partisan debates and that they have a special sensitivity when dealing with issues related to them.
With regard to the attempt to generate panic in the Residence with the issue of scabies by the people, Aznar has called for calm, defended the professionalism of the men and women who work in it and denied that it is a hygiene problem.
“At the beginning of Christmas, we are told of a case of scabies from a worker who is on vacation. That puts us on alert and we follow up if there are any more cases, despite the fact that this person is separated and does not join until after a month,” he said.
At the end of Christmas there is a case of a worker who is diagnosed with scabies, although the family doctor does not discharge her. “At that moment I meet with the acting director of the Residence, we study the protocols that exist, and in the Junta de Andalucía we see that it is recommended that this person be separated until the treatment that prevents contagion is applied,” he explained.
“At the moment you detect it and take the treatment, at 12 hours you no longer spread”, said Aznar, who said that, he withdrew that worker for 3 days which, joining the 3 days that corresponded to him by libranza, meant his absence from the center for a total of 6 days. In parallel, the IMSERSO reported this case to Public Health and initiated contact with prevention of the Residence.
In addition, as explained by Aznar, he maintains contact with a doctor to follow all the guidelines that he transfers and puts on gowns and gloves for all the staff of the center. At the same time, “a thorough surveillance” is carried out in the plant where this case of scabies is located, while the control in cleaning and washing is accentuated.
Meeting with family and workers
On Friday, an information session is held for all the staff of the center, which was requested from Chiron Prevention. They were given a document prepared from the information given by the Ministry of Public Health that includes all preventive measures and actions in case of scabies.
In addition, a template is established to control all the cases that may occur, because it is an acarus that generates a rash on the skin and that is easy to spread with contact.
“If a worker is diagnosed and has to work the next day, we will give him a day so that he does not work, regardless of whether or not he is given a medical leave, to ensure that he is not contagious,” he said.
Regarding the residents, Aznar has asserted that special care is being taken with them. To such an extent that there were 4 cases diagnosed by mushrooms by the doctor of the Residence and, for the sake of greater tranquility and security of the residents, “we have contacted the Ingesa and have asked that those 4 cases be reviewed for greater tranquility of all”.
In addition, a meeting was held yesterday with the relatives of the residents in which he became aware of all this. For this reason, Verónica Aznar has insisted that it has acted with total transparency and will continue to do so. “What I don’t want is for workers to be demonized and for residents and their families to be alerted to this issue, especially when all the means are being put in,” he said.
