The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, through Adif, litifies the contract for the installation of the GSM-R communications system on line C-5 of the Madrid City Centre (Mó⦅⦆ -Humanes) and its maintenance for a period of 48 months. The tender budget reaches 11.26 million euros (VAT included).
The contract provides for the execution of the works for the deployment of the GSM-R system in about 52 km of railway infrastructure, and its integration in the facilities common to other existing lines. This system provides the services for communication through radiotelephony between the circulations and the command post.
This contract, included in the Proximity Plan, is part of the Action Plan at the C-5 Presented by the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, last March to modernize the line, increase its capacity and improve accessibility. The C-5 records the largest volume of passengers in the Madrid Vicinity and last year was used by 72 million people.
Specifically, the installation of the GSM-R system on line C-5 it is accurate due to the modernisation of its signalling facilities, which reach the end of their useful life, so that the Plan envisages the transition from the LZB system to the ERTMS N2 (European signalling system).
The Action Plan of the C-5 has a total investment of 1,350 million euros, of which approximately 650 million euros correspond to Adif, which executes 28 actions for the improvement of the infrastructure, and 700 million euros to Renfe, mainly for the purchase of new trains and the construction and adaptation of workshops.
The contract now in litigation covers corrective maintenance activities (repair of breakdowns) and preventive maintenance (performed at specified intervals or according to prescribed criteria), as well as specific maintenance actions, coverage measures and quality of service.

These actions contribute to the fulfillment of several of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as 9 (promotion of reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructures) and 11 (access to safe, accessible and sustainable transport systems).
