The Social Security has registered in the Community of Madrid 688,710 foreign affiliates on average in August, after adding 72,241 jobs over the last 12 months, which means an increase of 13.08%. In month-on-month terms, growth was 1.14% compared to June, with 7,745 more affiliates on average.
By contribution scheme, 79.4% (546,953) contribute to the General Social Security Scheme. The most representative sectors in this group are Hospitality with 91,459 with an increase this month of 8023 contracts, 9.6% compared to last month (13.35% of the total); Administrative Activities with 83,684 growing in 4561 contracts; Trade with 96,316 (14.06%); Construction 80,529 with 16,037 new contracts (11.75%) and Transport and storage with 39,991 (6.6%); on the other hand the health and social services sector has 33,573 affiliates in Madrid, much of them from outside the European Union.
With regard to the Domestic Workers System, the number of foreign workers in the region reaches 57,533 56,980, increasing the number of contracts in one year by more than 9,000, most of them women and from outside the Union, which account for 79% of these contracts.
For its part, the number of foreign self-employed affiliates in the region stood in August at 82,846 workers 12.10%, with 787 new affiliates in a single month, almost 1% more in the last month.
As for non-professional caregivers, there are 10,345 participants in the Madrid Community, most of them women.
Curiously, there has been a small monthly setback among foreigners coming from the European Union, perhaps as a result of the completion of practices; in fact, in monthly terms, there is only 800 reduction among this sector of the population, while at an annual level, growth continues.
The Community of Madrid is the second community that has the most foreigners 688,710, the first is the Catalan one that concentrates 888,910, 19.39% of the total number of foreign workers affiliated in Spain.
New record of foreign affiliates
The Social Security has registered more than 3,550,000 foreign affiliates in terms of average affiliation in August and also reaches a new peak in the seasonally adjusted series, which exceeds 3.5 million for the first time. Specifically, the System counted 3,551,759 foreign affiliates on average in August, 39,535 more than the previous month and 482,490 more than a year ago. Foreign affiliation thus grew by 15.72% year-on-year, compared to 3.1% of the system as a whole.
The evolution of foreign affiliation maintains a sustained trajectory of growth. Since June 2022, the number of workers from other countries has increased by more than 1.2 million. In fact, 50.9% of the employment created since the implementation of the labor reform corresponds to foreign workers.
If the seasonality and the effect of the calendar are discounted, Social Security It already has 3,526,093 foreign affiliates, after incorporating 479,004 in the last twelve months.
Impact of regularisation
The affiliation of foreign workers has shown a special dynamism during the first eight months of the year, with an acceleration of growth since the end of April that has coincided with the implementation of the extraordinary process of administrative regularization of foreign persons.
If a picture is taken of the labour market as of August 31, the number of foreign people who were registered with the Social Security as a result of this process amounted to 337,917, in the context of a Social Security affiliation of 22.4 million people.
This growth also occurs in a labor market in which foreign affiliation presents an increasingly diversified presence, both by sectors of activity and by modalities of employment and forms of participation. Its incorporation is reflected both in activities with a high demand for labour and in sectors with higher qualifications and in self-employed entrepreneurship.
Impact of regularisation
The affiliation of foreign workers has shown a special dynamism during the first seven months of the year, with an acceleration of growth since the end of April, coinciding with the implementation of the extraordinary regularization process. If you take a picture of the labor market as of July 30, the number of foreign people who were already registered in the Social Security as a result of this process amounted to 262,475, compared to a total number of affiliation of 22,502,259 people. Of these, 213,883, or 81.5%, were covered by the General Social Security System, while 12,675, or 4.8%, were self-employed. By sex, 158,171 were men, 60.3%, and 104,304 women, 39.7%.
