The delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, visited today the special security device implemented by the National Police on the boulevard of Peña Gorbea Street, located in the Madrid district of Puente de Vallecas.
This intervention responds to the neighborhood demands to recover normality, coexistence, control of vulnerable people and prevention of unceasing behaviors. To ensure its effectiveness, the deployment constantly maintains an increase in visible police presence and the performance of preventive controls.
In particular, “the staff of the National Police in the district of Puente de Vallecas has increased by more than 20% with 37 new personnel who have arrived for a few weeks and who serve in the district and, in particular, with this operation on the whole of the boulevard of Peña Gorbea, but also in the neighboring squares and roads” the delegate of the Government has detailed during the tour, in which he has been accompanied by the chief commissioner of the National Police Station of Puente de Vallecas.
Call for institutional coordination
Martín Aguirre, who has also held a meeting with merchants in the area, has stressed that the device has a “deterrent effect and also a greater capacity for reaction”, but has insisted on the “lack of complementary actions in socio-sanitary matters” since “mere police action does not solve complex problems”.
In this sense, he has again made “an appeal to the City Council and the Community of Madrid, which are the administrations that have the competences, to address jointly and in a coordinated way a comprehensive action in this area of Madrid that provides solutions to complex problems”.
The police device focuses on crime prevention, through the control of urban roads and coordination with public services in the city. Within the framework of these actions, agents are carrying out identification of persons and documentation checks, in addition to issuing records for possession of narcotic substances and consumption of alcohol on the public highway.
