Coordinated the access device to the ports of Navacerrada and Cotos

Activated for the winter season

  • The device developed by the General Directorate of Traffic and the Civil Guard follows the same line as last year’s winter season, but will have more information panels for drivers
  • As for the car parks of Navacerrada, Cotos and Valdesquí are complete, we will proceed to the cut for visitors of the M-601 and M-604 road.
  • It is recommended to use public transport, through the lines of the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid; Special Services that are established between the towns of Los Molinos, Cercedilla and Valdesquí; or collective transport.
  • Those drivers who go to the Farm or to Segovia, can do so on the N-6 or on the AP-6.
  • Real-time information on car park occupancy will be provided through variable message road screens, social networks and radio news bulletins, thus strengthening information for potential visitors.

The device that regulates access to the ports of Navacerrada and Cotos with the aim of guaranteeing the mobility and security of all users within the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park has finalized its preparation in a meeting held this afternoon at the headquarters of the Government Delegation.

The meeting has been convened by the government delegate, Francisco Martín Aguirre, attending to the forecast of snowfall and its coincidence with a three-day festive bridge that begins next weekend. Representatives of the General Directorate of Traffic and the Civil Guard, responsible for designing the operation; of the Community of Madrid (Security and Emergency Agency Madrid 112 and the Regional Transport Consortium), and of the mayors of Cercedilla, Navacerrada and Rascafría, municipalities directly affected, have attended.

The main novelty of this year’s device compared to last year’s is that the General Directorate of Traffic has made a significant investment to install more information panels in different locations to make drivers aware of the situation of parking in the mountains in real time.

The mayors, for their part, have been able to convey to those responsible for it their concerns and demands after the experience of last year, in which an action protocol was already launched, selective cuts and filters for the agglomerations that, on certain dates, occur in the accesses to the areas of the mountains. All this to be able to combine the enjoyment of the snow with the security, public order and the life of the neighbors of the area.

Measurements of the device

The device includes the regulation and management measures of ascent to the ports of Navacerrada and Cotos on the roads M-601/CL-601 and M-604/CL-604 that will be applicable during the weekends of the winter period and that maintains the measures established in the last season.

The measures provided for by the device include different levels of action:

  • When the car parks of Cotos and Valdesquí are complete, they are
    It will proceed to the cut of the road M-604 in the pk. 32 (past Rascafría) and access to such parking facilities will be prevented through CL-604 at pk. 48.
  • When the car parks of Navacerrada are complete, access to them will be prevented, forcing the vehicles that have accessed by M-601 at kilometer 20 (roundabout) to return to Madrid from that point or continue on CL-601 towards San Ildefonso and Segovia. Solamente se efectuará el corte de la carretera M-601 en la Fonda Real (pk. 12), in cases of extreme need due to traffic congestion or emergency situation.
  • The indiscriminate parking of vehicles on the sides and adjacent areas of the M-601 roads in the stretch from Fuente de los Geólogists to the Seven Revolts and in the CL-604 from the Alto de Navacerrada to the parking area B will be made impossible by the installation of pedestrian fences and plastic tape delimiting the road and exclusive areas for circulation.
  • Through the variable message panels existing on the access roads from Madrid, drivers heading to the area will be informed of the level of occupancy of the car parks, as well as the regulatory measures adopted at all times.
  • From 15:00, as long as the car parks located in Navacerrada are completely saturated, the CL-604 road will be cut at the pk. 48, making the return to Madrid through the M-604 road, informing of this advisable itinerary to users parked in Cotos and Valdesquí.
  • In the above-mentioned road-cutting situations, only emergency vehicles, residents and workers of the
    Area correctly accredited as such and public and/or collective transport, without possibility of parking.
  • Traffic also recalls that all those who wish to access the ports of Navacerrada and Cotos can do so also using public transport, either through the lines available to the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid (a direct line between Madrid and Valdesquí) in addition to the Special Services between the towns of Los Molinos and Cercedilla and Valdesquí, which can be established by the different administrations, or through collective transport, taxis and VTCs.
