The Community of Madrid was in July with the lowest unemployment since 2008 with a total of 275,876 registered unemployed. Although the total number of unemployed people registered in the offices of the Public Service of State Employment (SEPE) at the end of July in the Community of Madrid has increased by 1,138 people (+0.41%) in relation to the month of June; in year-on-year terms, unemployment has fallen by 12,788 (-4.43%) with the lowest number of registered unemployed in a month of July since 17 years.
At the national level, unemployment fell by 1,357 people (-0.06%) in relation to the previous month. In year-on-year terms, unemployment fell by 145,631 people (5.71%), with the lowest number of registered unemployed in a month of July since 18 years, standing at 2,404,606 people. This decline in the country as a whole has been mainly contributed by Andalusia, where the largest decline is recorded (-8,035 people), followed by Castilla-La Mancha (-1,771 people) and the Principality of Asturias (-1,296 people). In the remaining 11 autonomous communities there is an increase headed by Catalonia (4,339 people), the Basque Country (1,600 people) and Aragon (1,167 people).
Unemployment by sector
By sector, the one that includes the highest number of unemployed in the region of Madrid is that of Services, with 222,791, 2,161 more unemployed than in June; followed by Construction, with 18,790, which has 382 fewer unemployed. For its part, Industry has 14,484 unemployed people, 73 unemployed less, and Agriculture has 1,744 unemployed, which translates into 40 fewer unemployed. On the other hand, 18,067 come from the No Previous Job group, that is, 528 fewer people than in June.
In the country as a whole, unemployment has registered a decrease in the No Previous Job group of 3,315 people (-1.45%) and has also decreased in the agricultural sector by 614 people (0.78%). On the contrary, it has risen in the Construction sector by 138 people (0.08%), in the Industry sector by 416 people (0.22%) and in the Services sector by 2,018 people (0.12%).
Unemployment by age and gender
Of the total number of unemployed in the Community of Madrid in the seventh month of the year, 110,259 are men, which means a drop of 35 unemployed compared to the previous month, and 165,617 are women, 1,173 more. At the national level, male unemployment stands at 944,623 as it fell by 456 people (-0.05%) and female unemployment at 1,459,983 fell by 901 (-0.06%) in relation to the month of June. Compared to July 2024, male unemployment fell by 65,869 (-6.52%) and female unemployment fell by 79,762 (-5.18%).
By age, unemployment in the region among young people under the age of 25 fell, with 193 fewer unemployed than at the end of last month, to 16,877 unemployed, of whom 9,027 are men and 7,850 are women, while unemployment among people aged 25 and over reached 258,999 unemployed, 1,331 more.
As for the unemployment among foreigners in the Community of Madrid, it stood at 46,320 people in July, which translates into 1,468 unemployed less than the previous month, a drop of 3.07%. The annual rate was 3,813 fewer foreign unemployed (-7.61). Of the total, 16,995 come from EU countries and 29,325 from non-EU countries.
Contracts and benefits
During the month of July, the Community of Madrid registered 223,490 contracts, 15,690 more than in the previous month, which represents an increase of 7.55%. The year-on-year rate rose by 8.46%, with 17,434 contracts more than in the same month of 2024. Throughout Spain, a total of 1,588,983 contracts were registered in July. The total number of beneficiaries at the end of June (last data available) of unemployment benefits was 1,725,252, of which 161,992 (-731) are from the Community of Madrid.
Affiliations to Social Security
The employment data recorded in July, allow Social Security affiliation to once again mark highs this month in the country with almost half a million more affiliates in the last year. In the original series, Social Security registered 21,865,503 members, following an increase in the last month of 4,408; a better performance than the July average in the last three years.
In the Community of Madrid during July it fell 0.67% in relation to the previous month, and lost an average of 25,385 contributors. In year-on-year terms, the data represent a 2.58% increase in Social Security membership, with a total of 95,050 more troops. Thus, the global number of contributors in the Community of Madrid reaches 3,776,154 people.
Of all the members of the Social Security in the Community of Madrid, 3,337,151 belong to the General Regime, 434,807 are autonomous, 4,197 are registered in the Regime of the Sea and do not have any contributors in the Coal Regime. Likewise, 2,117 are registered in the agricultural sector and 92,422 in the household services sector.
