- One year after her first visit, she found that the problems of coexistence, insecurity and unhealthiness reported by the neighbors persist.
- Francisco Martín Aguirre has reiterated that solving this “social urgency” requires “effective cooperation between administrations” and has urged the Community of Madrid, the owner of the block through the Social Housing Agency, to “assume responsibilities”.
- To this end, the delegate has announced that he will call the City Council and the Community of Madrid to a tripartite social emergency table in July on these homes.
- Martín has highlighted that, in this year, the presence of agents in the area has been strengthened, also carrying out several police operations.
The delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, has returned today to the social housing of Torrejón de Ardoz to check the “social punishment” that entails the problems of insecurity, coexistence and unhealthiness denounced by the neighbors and that persist one year after his first visit.
It is the block of homes owned by the Social Housing Agency of the Community of Madrid, located on Avenida Carmen Laforet, 14, in the neighborhood of Soto Henares de Torrejón de Ardoz. In the tour he has been accompanied by the councilor for Security and Civil Protection of the City of Torrejón de Ardoz, José Alberto Cantalejo Manzanares; and the commissioner of the National Police, Juan Ignacio Parreño.
During the meeting, he was able to see how, a year later, the problems persist and many of the planned measures have not been implemented. In this regard, Martín Aguirre said that the building represents “one of the social urgencies of the Community of Madrid” that, among all administrations, should have the capacity to address “effectively”. “Barely a year ago I was in this building and I saw the indecent conditions in which many neighbors who are also beneficiaries of social housing are forced to live. A year later, things have not improved much,” he said.
The activation of face-to-face surveillance; the installation of security cameras; the execution of an occupancy audit or the comprehensive rehabilitation of the property are some of the measures that neighbors continue to demand from the Community of Madrid, owner of the building through the Social Housing Agency.
Government Delegation Commitment
Given this situation, Francisco Martín Aguirre reiterated “the commitment of the Government Delegation, since the commitment to security in the environment and in the block is a fact, but it is necessary that the Community of Madrid assume its responsibilities. Also the City Council of Torrejón de Ardoz, which has already done some actions and will continue doing more as it has moved today”.
In this desire for cooperation, the delegate has announced the convening this July of a tripartite table to work together in the diagnosis and design of an action plan to give a coordinated response to the neighbors.
On the other hand, the government delegate has recalled the actions promoted since his visit in 2024, such as the issuance of six court eviction orders, thanks to the work of the State Security Forces and Bodies and to the collaboration with the judiciary; the strengthening of police presence in the area and coordination between police forces, contributing to the eviction of several drug traffickers. Also in the last year, he has highlighted the dismantling of the violent group “Chorus of Trinitarians” that operated from an okupado floor in the building. Actions that have resulted in greater security in the block.
