- Francisco Martín defends the presence of this flag in all official bodies and regrets that it will not be placed in the headquarters of the Government of the Community of Madrid or the City Council of the capital
The main façade of the headquarters of the Government Delegation exhibits from today the Rainbow Flag, universal symbol of sexual and gender diversity and symbolic representation of the fight for equality and the rights of the LGBTI+ community.
In this symbolic aspect it is precisely what the delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, wanted to influence, claiming that Pride “is not only a date, a party or a banner, but it is memory, dignity and justice”, something that in the Delegation of the Government “is always defended without complexes”.
For this reason, he defended his presence on the façades of all the official buildings because it is a gesture that contributes “to give security” to the whole collective and to create spaces “of freedom and commitment”, and he regretted that this image will not be produced in the headquarters of the Government of the Community of Madrid or the City Council of the capital.
Faced with this position, that of the Government of Spain that “bets to make visible, defend and celebrate” the achievements reached and that confronts the speeches of those who seek a retreat in the rights achieved in the form of a “loud and clear message”.
He also recalled that this year is the celebration of almost three decades of the approval of marriage equality (in 2005) that made Spain “a freer and fairer country”, an event around which many activities scheduled for Pride Week will revolve. It is a social conquest that “like all of us, we must defend every day”.
The government delegate has placed the flag with young people from the LGTBI-feminist defense ‘Esmeralda Space’ of the IES Los Olivos in Amelia del Campo and representatives of the associations FELGTBI+, Uge Sangil, Fundación Pedro Zerolo, ARCOPOLI, Fundación 26 de Embre, Fundación Eddy-G, LGTBIpol, GMadrid Sports and the president of COGAM.
Also present were Julio Del Valle Iscar, Director General for Real and Effective Equality of LGTBI+ People at the Ministry of Equality; the spokespersons for Más Madrid and PSOE at the Madrid City Council, Rita Maestre and Reyes Maroto; the spokesperson for Más Madrid at the Madrid Assembly, Manuela Bergerot and the mayor of Velilla de San Antonio.
