The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has just resolved one of the calls to promote the Circular Economy in the textile sector.
In the Community of Madrid, the company Pyrates Smart Fabrics S.L (PYRATEX) will receive more than one hundred euros to develop its research and development project in which it intends to invest.
Fundación Pueblo para el Pueblo will receive 1,324,638.25 for Third Party Waste Management. The Foundation manages the Humana stores that transform used clothing into employment, local help and global cooperation.
For its part, Piratex, was born as a star up in 2014 with the mission of replacing synthetic fabrics with natural and more responsible options; it is a specialist in fabrics made with natural, organic and recycled materials and is committed to its Spanish roots.
Environmental impact
The world’s textile production has doubled since 2000 on the back of fast and ultra-fast fashion. In the EU, the consumption of textiles, most of which are imported, today represents, on average, the sixth largest negative impact on the environment and climate change, and the fifth highest in the use of virgin raw materials from a global life-cycle perspective. Hence the need to promote projects of this kind.
