The deputy delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Pilar Trinidad Núñez, and the mayor of San Fernando de Henares, Javier Corpa Rubio, have held a meeting today to address the situation of reconstruction and repair of the damages caused by the episode of intense rains last March in the municipality.
The meeting was also attended by: the 1st deputy mayor and councilor for Security, Leticia Martín García; the councilor for Sports, Cristina Cepeda Serna; the president of the Regional Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Madrid (FRAVM), Jorge Nacarino Morales; and representatives of neighborhood associations of the municipality. A representative of the Civil Protection Unit has also participated in the Government Delegation.
One of the facilities that was most damaged was the municipal sports center “Justo Gómez Salto”, which has summer pools that were flooded by the flood of the Jarama River, and in which work has already been initiated with the help of machinery for the removal of the mud.
Recovery Aids
Trinidad Núñez has highlighted the importance of collaboration between administrations to face the consequences of this type of emergency situations.
On the part of the Government of Spain, on April 1, a few days after the end of the episode, the Council of Ministers already declared areas seriously affected by a civil protection emergency the territories that suffered up to 53 adverse phenomena of different nature between September 16, 2024 and March 24, 2025, among which are several areas of the Community of Madrid, which will allow to supplement the aid of other administrations.
Likewise, through the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, the aid will be articulated that allows to cover up to 50 percent of the amount of repairs in municipal infrastructures and road network, among which would be included those that are necessary in the aforementioned sports center.
