The delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, participated this Saturday in the welcoming ceremony of the II edition of the Olympics on the EU of Team Europe, which took place at the Carlos III University of Madrid. Along with him were the Vice-Rector of UC3M, Carolina Marugán, the MEP of the PSOE, José Cepeda, the spokesperson of Team Europa Madrid, Carlota Pombar, the delegate of Training and analysis of Team Europe, Victoria Vega and several professors of the university.
18 institutes compete with an essay on the European Union in which they will value not only knowledge on the subject, but also their creativity and contribution of their own ideas.
Francisco Martín has spoken at the table “Youth and sustainability”, the main motto of these Olympics, which seeks to encourage critical reflection and debate to bring young people closer to the challenges of sustainable development.
The Olympics will be extended throughout the weekend with activities aimed at raising awareness about sustainable development and as a novelty, this year they have carried out a simulation of the European Parliament in which students have been able to act as MEPs in a session. The final phase of the national Olympics will be held in Asturias in the month of April.
Team Europe
Team Europe was founded in 2019 and is the largest Europeanist youth association in Spain. It currently has more than 5,000 partners committed to promoting European values through different projects.
The Olympics on the European Union is an event held in collaboration with the Office of the European Parliament in Spain and last year brought together more than 100 young people from 21 educational centers in the Community of Madrid between 15 and 17 years old.
The government delegate along with the government’s deputy delegate, Pilar Trinidad, attended the second edition of the EU Team Europe Olympics held on March 16, 2024. The Delegation hosted the award ceremony of the European Team Olympics (regional phase of Madrid).
