The delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, visited today the Drug Reception and Control Unit where all the stains confiscated by the State Security Forces and Corps are managed.
It has toured some of its areas, such as the reception area, recently remodeled, the laboratory and the offices where pharmaceutical inspectors, research and administrative personnel carry out their work.
About Unit
Integrated in the Pharmaceutical Inspection and Drug Control Service, within the Health and Social Policy Area of the Government Delegation in Madrid, it is responsible for the control and management of confiscated narcotics and illicit trafficking psychotropes. From its reception, weighing, preparation of the analytical sample and deposit until its destruction.
All this involves the management of the calibration and verification of balances, maintenance of the facilities (filters), control of the sufficient stock of materials and Individual Protection Equipment (EPIs), etc.
Other functions of Pharmacy Inspection
With functional competence of the Agency for Medicinal Products and Health Products (AEMPS), the Pharmaceutical Inspection and Drug Control Service also has inspection functions in foreign trade, from facilities to companies in the sectors of health products, cosmetics and personal care, biocides and medicines.
Among them, the pharmaceutical control at the border of one of the main customs in Spain (fundamentally, the Madrid-Barajas airport), of the commercial items of: medicines, the active ingredients for their manufacture, medical products (very diverse and sometimes very complex sector), cosmetic products, biocides, etc; of the non-commercial items of the postal packages, which are received in Madrid (as the only head of the area of the Peninsula), destined to any point of Spain. It also carries out inspections in industries, at the request of the AEMPS (study of documentation, inspection and issuance of report).
The Tax Agency also requests its intervention in the retained packages that may supposedly contain illegal medicines.
