- Co-chaired by government delegate Francisco Martín and local mayor Francisco Javier Ayala
A total of 300 National and Local Police officers, plus Cavalry and Canine Guides units, will ensure security every day in the 2024 Fuenlabrada patron saint’s festivities, as has been agreed in the review of the special security operation designed for them that has taken place today in the Local Security Board of the municipality.
Co-chaired by the delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, and the mayor of Fuenlabrada, Francisco Javier Ayala, representatives of the City Council, the National Police, the Local Police and the Community of Madrid have attended.
The planned device has been analyzed, whose purpose is to guarantee the celebration of the festivities allowing the normal and peaceful development of their acts as well as to prevent incidents.
Security data
In addition, the government delegate has taken the opportunity to address the evolution of the security data of Fuenlabrada, which places it, according to the crime balance of the Ministry of Interior for the first quarter of 2024, as the safest city of more than 100,000 inhabitants in all of Spain, with a crime rate lower than 32 crimes per 1,000 inhabitants.
This is a much lower rate than the national rate, which exceeds 51 crimes per thousand inhabitants, and that of the Community of Madrid, which amounts to more than 60 crimes per thousand inhabitants.
Likewise, during the first six months of 2024, the number of criminal offenses in the town of Fuenlabrada has decreased by 4.78% compared to the year 2023 (from 3,039 to 2,894 crimes).
Francisco Martín has attributed these positive figures to the existing good police coordination, which he considers “essential” to obtain good security data, to which must be added coordination at the political level, which allows to analyze social emergencies “from all perspectives”. Therefore, it has again insisted on the need for the creation of a tripartite table between the municipal, regional and central administrations to address these issues in a comprehensive manner.
With regard to security in Fuenlabrada, he has also highlighted the devices established to counteract the increase of certain types of crime. Among them, the permanent device, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, in the “Cobo Calleja” polygon, in order to avoid theft with force inside the industrial buildings, which has given a positive result. Fuenlabrada has one of the industrial zones with the largest number of companies in the Community of Madrid, with 23 industrial estates and a total of 1,700 companies.
Gender violence
The Local Police of Fuenlabrada is fully incorporated into the VioGén system of comprehensive protection for women victims of gender violence since May 2010, and renewed its integration in February 2021.
Proof of its commitment is the installation, one more year, of a “Violet Point” during the holidays, which is also joined by a “Rainbow Point”, instruments to combat violence against women and the LGTBIQ+ community, and has added that, with these initiatives, the municipality “serves as inspiration”.
The government delegate has reiterated his recognition of the effort they make in Fuenlabrada to provide an adequate service for the protection, accompaniment and prevention of gender violence, and has insisted on the need to seek the support of the Government of the Community of Madrid and the Federation of Municipalities of Madrid to ensure that the rest of the municipalities in the region that has local police follow the same path.
