The Government Delegation has today organized a working meeting at its headquarters to transmit to the representatives of the municipalities of the region the news and resolve their doubts regarding the UNICO Broadband and UNICO 5G programs and on the implementation in their municipalities.
The day was attended by the Secretary General and technicians of the State Secretariat of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures, and the provincial head of Telecommunications Inspection of Madrid, together with representatives of the State Road Demarcation, the Tajo Hydrographic Confederation, the Community of Madrid, the Federation of Municipalities and Provinces of Madrid, representatives of the telecommunications operating companies and the Director of the Office of Promotion of Connectivity of the Ministry of Digitalization of the Community of Madrid.
The government delegate has transmitted to the municipalities the need to have their active participation to prioritize and expedite the processing of pending permits, so that the benefits of these infrastructures can reach all citizens and thus guarantee full social and territorial cohesion.
He also highlighted the effort made by the Government of Spain to close the rural digital divide, even two years before the scheduled date, allowing 100% of citizens to have access to ultra-fast fixed broadband connectivity (100 Mbps), and called for the need to continue strengthening cooperation between administrations to continue moving forward on this and other issues that help improve the lives of citizens of the Community of Madrid. “We want to collaborate with the promotion of the digitalization of our municipalities and strengthen cooperation between the administrations,” he added.
Programs UNICO
The UNICO Rural Demand program, through the Connect 35 project, offers a connection of 200 Mbps for 35 euros per month in areas where there is no commercial high-speed supply available. In addition to this program, and with its help, the coverage of fiber optic networks and 5G mobile networks can be expanded.
The UNICO Broadband Access program will bring optical fiber at 300 Mbps to 98% of the population, financing deployments in rural areas that do not yet have it.
The UNICO 5G programs will allow the deployment of 5G in municipalities of less than 10,000 inhabitants, contributing to the development and modernization of all the municipalities of our country.
These programmes are funded by the European Union's recovery funds.
