New Civil Registry
This new Civil Registry, according to the Law of 2011 and the reform introduced in 2021, is mainly characterized by being public, free and unique for the whole of Spain and is configured as electronic, which allows interoperability between public administrations, thus simplifying procedures, streamlining procedures and contributing to the elimination of displacements and the reduction of waiting times for users. It already reaches half of the population of our country.
It is also based on the individual record, through which each person is uniquely identified by his personal code and attests to the facts and acts of the civil status of each person ordered in a logical and chronological way.
It is therefore a model that puts people at the centre, their rights and their needs, regardless of where they live and how they handle technological means. For this reason, and with the aim of contributing to territorial and digital cohesion, a Civil Registry office is maintained in each municipality, guaranteeing access to all citizens.
