Madrid, May 2, 2024.- The Government Delegation wanted to congratulate on May 2, day of the Autonomous Community, all Madrileños and Madrileñas with a video on their social networks in which they shared images of what was the office of the first regional president.
It was originally an oriental cabinet, from which the original decoration is preserved – except for the wall’s façade – made at an indeterminate time between 1919 and 1933 since, at the beginning of the 20th century, the Orientalist trend in decoration had regained strength in Spain.
The doors and windows and their mouths or garrisons are panelled in lacquered wood and decorated with golden drawings that represent various oriental themes, such as Japanese ladies on a pier or in a boat, Chinese palanquins and carts, various types of oriental boats and
Shows of Mongolian horses, as well as peasants, fishermen and popular types on foot or on horseback, among others. The locksmithing of these pieces was usually decorated with landscapes with temples.
The hard-worked wooden ceiling was ornamented on the heads of the beams seen with splendid metal grouts, also common in this type of decoration.
Headquarters of the Community of Madrid
The Borghetto Palace, the seat of the Government Delegation since July 24, 1986, was previously (between 1983 and 1985) the first seat of the presidency of the Community of Madrid.
Already in this period, the Eastern Cabinet became the office of the first Autonomous President, a function that continues to play today for the holders of the Government Delegation.
