Madrid, April 25, 2024.- The Government Delegation in Madrid hosted this afternoon a meeting of the Interministerial Commission on the Cañada Real.
In addition to the government delegate, Francisco Martín, and the government subdelegate, Pilar Trinidad, attended the meeting: Rubén Pérez Correa, Secretary of State for Youth and Childhood; Rafael Escudero Alday, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Childhood; Juan Ignacio Vaquerizo Pulido, of the Secretary of State for Justice; Anselmo Menéndez Menéndez, Deputy Director General for Policy and Housing Aid of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility; and Carmen Martínez de Azagra, Adviser to the Secretary of State for Energy.
The meeting comes days after the signing of the General Protocol of Action for the implementation of an Extraordinary Plan of Rehousing in the Cañada Real Galiana 2024-2034, between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, the Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, the Government Delegation in Madrid, and the City Councils of Madrid and Rivas Vaciamadrid.
Through this Protocol, signed on April 15, the different administrations commit themselves to make an extraordinary contribution for the relocations of the Cañada Real of 330 million euros, which must be contributed in equal parts by the Government, the Community of Madrid and the municipalities involved. This amount will allow the relocation of 1631 citizens of the Cañada Real.
Interministerial Group on the Cañada Real
It was created in September 2021 chaired by the Government Delegation in order to coordinate the action of the different bodies and departments involved within the General Administration of the State, as the Government of Spain had committed to the UN. In November of the same year, and on the initiative of the Interministerial Group, the Commission on Relocations was created, coordinated by the Subdelegate of Government and formed by representatives of all the administrations with competences in Cañada Real. Its objective will be to allocate the extraordinary funds of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, to carry out the necessary relocations with the management of the Community of Madrid and the collaboration of the affected municipalities: Madrid, Rivas and Coslada
