The government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, visited Fuenlabrada today, the city of Madrid that has recorded the lowest crime rate among all cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants of Spain, according to the Crime Balance of the Ministry of Interior of 2023.
Together with the mayor of the town, Francisco Javier Ayala Ortega, he has reviewed the positive security data that the town repeats, one more year, maintaining the important downward line that began in 2012 (except 2020, a year that statistically due to the pandemic is distorted).
In fact, Fuenlabrada recorded in 2023 a rate of 32 crimes per 1000 inhabitants, which is a decrease of 7 tenths compared to last year’s already excellent rate (32.7). This figure is much lower than the national crime rate (51), of the Community of Madrid (60, 2) and of the city of Madrid (74.7).
In 2023, 6,053 crimes or misdemeanours were committed in a city with a population, according to INE data, of 189,287 people. Fuenlabrada is presented as “a safe city”, fruit “of the teamwork, coordination and efficiency of the National Police, the Local Police and the Civil Guard,” said the government delegate.
“It is the result of a sum of efforts of all the State Security Forces and Bodies, of the participation of multiple actors, such as the associative network, companies and organizations, the judicial and university world (very present in this city),” he added.
In this sense, he has highlighted “the Fuenlabrada model” and that “the neighbors of Fuenlabrada can feel very proud of residing in a municipality like this. And they can feel very safe and secure thanks to the 401 men and women who make up the Fuenlabrada National Police service.”
In this regard, he recalled the recent award of the Gold Medal of the city to the National Police Corps by the City Council as a thank you to the work carried out in Fuenlabrada since 1985, and in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the creation of the Corps, which is celebrated throughout this year 2024. “The excellent data provided today demonstrate the merit of this medal and the excellent work done in these almost 40 years of presence of the National Police in this city,” he said.
Visit to the camera control center
After the meeting with the mayor, whom he thanked for the renewal, last year, of the integration of his Local Police into the VioGén system for monitoring victims of gender violence, the government delegate met with the head of the Fuenlabrada Police Station, Commissioner Feliciano Díaz Campos, and with the head of the Fuenlabrada Local Police, Miguel Ángel García.
Together with them he has visited the Video Surveillance Room of the City of Fuenlabrada, a control center to manage in a unified way all the video surveillance systems existing in the various municipal buildings.
The center is equipped with technology and analytics that facilitate the operator's simultaneous control of hundreds of cameras.
