The government delegate to the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, met today with the mayor of Nuevo Baztán, Gema Pacheco Huecas, along with whom he reviewed the projects financed with Next Generation EU funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan that is underway in the municipality.
Among them, “Nuevo Baztán, la Villa bonita de Madrid”, which is part of the program of Tourist Sustainability Plans in Destination 2023, and includes actions related to the remediation of damages caused by climate change; the rehabilitation and recovery of degraded areas of the municipality; the development of projects of energy efficiency and digital transformation and mobility, which allow to cohesion the municipality; or investments aimed at providing tourist accommodation capacity to the municipality that respond to the great demand of overnight stays.
This was one of the eight projects approved in the Community of Madrid within the III Extraordinary Call of the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plans 2023 program, with a budget of 2,000,000 €.
The objective is to turn the town into a sustainable and quality reference, promoting natural and cultural heritage, the circular economy and the cohesion of the territory, through the offer of complementary tourist products, digitalization and energy efficiency.
Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destinations
Within the plans of Recovery, Transformation and Resilience of the Spanish State, the Tourist Sustainability Plans in Destinations are convened every year. These plans are channelled through European funds intended to alleviate the damage caused by the pandemic. The objective is to promote the transformation of Spanish tourist destinations towards sustainability and digitalization in the management of the tourist resources, infrastructures and products of the destinations and diversify the tourist offer.
It also aims to contribute to generating employment opportunities, promoting territorial cohesion and the deconcentration of demand while also seeking to contribute to improving the natural capital of the tourism system. Some of these objectives want to guarantee their preservation by reducing emissions of polluting gases, and enhance efficiency in waste management and water consumption among other actions, thus mitigating the effects of climate change.
Housing rehabilitation
The government delegate also learned about the housing rehabilitation and accessibility project of the municipality.
The interventions are subsidized with European Next Generation funds and are articulated through an agreement with the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda that Nuevo Baztán was the first municipality in the Community of Madrid to sign.
This grant is focused on the rehabilitation of homes in terms of energy efficiency and accessibility, and will involve the renovation of thermal insulation on facades and roofs, replacement of windows and exterior glasses, installation of solar panels and projects in order to increase the energy efficiency of the homes of the municipality.
The energy efficiency plan of homes will subsidize all those rehabilitations that favor the responsible consumption of energy. The objectives of the energy efficiency plan are two very well defined: the improvement of energy efficiency and the sustainability of housing.
