The government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, accompanied this morning the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Oscar Puente, and the president of Renfe, Raúl Blanco, during his visit to the new facilities of the high-speed maintenance base of Santa Catalina, in the Puente de Vallecas District (Madrid).
These new facilities of Renfe Engineering and Maintenance have involved a global investment of more than 102 million euros (VAT included), as recalled by the minister, and will allow to meet the maintenance needs of the new fleet of high-speed trains, among others. In particular, the maintenance capacity will be extended from 24 to 48 trains. The goal is that the workshops will also serve companies that have entered to compete in the high-speed market.
In this regard, Minister Oscar Puente has stressed that Spain is the first country in Europe with three first-class companies providing high-speed services. This competition, he said, has meant a reduction in prices, allowing to increase “the social profitability of investments and ensuring the right to mobility of all citizens.”
