The play 'Orlando' by Virginia Woolf, and its representation by the company Teatro Defondo, is the focus of the latest episode of the campaign "Committed against Gender Violence", which has been developed this week by the Government Delegation in Madrid, on the occasion of the 25N, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The theatrical adaptation of ‘Orlando’ is a comedy that shows us how to live the same life as a man or a woman. Pedro Huetos, a member of the company, considers that ‘Orlando’ “is a capital work in the fight against gender violence because Virginia Woolf speaks in this text of the many violence that has been and is still being exercised against women.”
The company ‘Teatro Defondo’ represented this work in the cultural auditorium center Mariana Pineda in Velilla of San Antonio, last Saturday. The company had planned from before the summer the representation of ‘Orlando’ for Saturday, November 25 in the Madrid town of Valdemorillo. But this representation was suspended in June by decision of the new local government team.
Protagonists of previous episodes of the campaign
This campaign of the Government Delegation, which was launched a week ago, aimed to make known during the week of 25N a history of commitment against gender violence.
The six previous episodes have been starred by the following people and institutions: the head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Delegation, Eva Corrales; the journalist and writer Carme Chaparro; the VioGén system of comprehensive protection of women victims of gender violence and their families; the 016 service of continuous telephone attention to women victims of all types of violence; the young winners of the short contest against gender violence, organized by the Government Delegation, and the Municipal Point of the Regional Observatory of Gender Violence of the City of San Livella.
