The government delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, has attended the rally and the five minutes of silence called by the City of Getafe this afternoon to condemn the murder of a woman in the town last Saturday.
The 39-year-old victim was stabbed in the middle of the street in a case that the National Police is investigating as possible murder for gender violence. For the moment, the woman’s former partner, who had had police protection until April, is detained when she requested that the precautionary measures be withdrawn and, as a result, her case was inactive within the VioGén system.
If the machista motivation for this crime is confirmed, there are already 52 victims of gender violence in Spain so far this year —the fifth in the Community of Madrid—, and 1,237 since 2003, when the records began.
