The delegate of the Government in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, attended this morning the solemn act of celebration of the festivity of “San Juan Bautista”, Patron of the Municipal Police of Madrid, which took place in the Madrid Parque de El Retiro.
During the event, chaired by the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, various recognitions of the Municipal Police have been given, such as the Medals to Professional Merit and Crossings to Merit of the Municipal Police. The government delegate has participated, with other authorities, in the imposition of these awards.
It has also included a parade of the different sections and media of all the Representative Units of the Municipal Police, as well as of various invited Bodies.
The Municipal Police of Madrid welcomed the patronage of San Juan Bautista in the 1970s because they considered that this saint embodied the principles by which the police are guided. The most prominent is the defense of the virtue of justice, which for the agents consists in protecting the rights of all.
With Madrid as the initiator of this patronage, many of the local and municipal police —also from other parts of Spain— who were born in the villages welcomed him.
