The Government delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, attended today the commemorative event for the 79th anniversary of the foundation of the Civil Guard at the College of Young Guards “Duque de Ahumada” in Valdemoro.
The celebration was presided over by the Secretary of State for Security, Rafael Pérez, who was accompanied by the general director of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González, and the deputy operational director of the Armed Institute, Lieutenant General Pablo Salas, among other authorities.
The Civil Guard was created on March 28, 1844, by a Royal Decree, as a special Armed Force Corps of infantry and cavalry with the denomination of Civil Guards. The responsibility of organizing this body was entrusted to the Marshal of Campo Francisco Javier Girón y Ezpeleta, II Duque de Ahumada.
Today, the Civil Guard is present throughout the national territory, exercising responsibility for citizen security in 84% of the total and in the territorial sea. To carry out its tasks, it has more than 80,000 people and 2,000 positions.
