- These crimes increased by almost 40% in 2022 compared to 2019 in the National Police demarcation, where complaints have increased (17.12%), with a notable increase in the number of detainees and investigated (74.22%)
A total of 793 national police officers are exclusively assigned to the care, protection of victims of gender violence and investigation of these crimes in the Community of Madrid. These officers are integrated in the Family and Women Units of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade, in the 18 district police stations of the city of Madrid or in the 12 local police stations. This figure has been increasing significantly in recent years. With respect to 2019 –when there were 703 policemen assigned to VioGén–, the increase in the number of troops assigned to fight this scourge was 12.8%. In the last year –in 2021 they were 769–, it was 3.12%.
The delegate of the Government in the Community of Madrid, Mercedes González, learned this information at first hand during the visit she made today to the Family and Women Unit (UFAM) of the National Police in Torrejón de Ardoz, accompanied by the superior chief, Manuel Soto; the police commanders of the Commissariat; the councilor for Security and Civil Protection, Juan José Crespo; the chief commissioner of the Local Police, Luis Antonio Moreno; and the head of the Unit of Coordination against Violence on the Delegation of the Government, Corrales.
Complaints and detainees
Crimes of gender violence have increased in 2022 compared to 2019, the last year of normality, in the National Police demarcation, from 8,886 to 12,373, 39.24% more. With respect to 2021, they have continued to increase very significantly, from 10,564 complaints to 12,373, an increase of 17.12%. It should also be noted that those arrested and investigated for this type of crime have risen even more from 2019 to 2022, rising in Madrid from 5,265 to 7,835, or 74.22%.
Municipalities incorporated to VioGén
In the Community of Madrid there are already 32 municipalities fully incorporated into VioGén, the integral system of monitoring victims of gender violence, so that their local police collaborate with the State Security Forces and Bodies in the monitoring and protection of victims of this scourge.
These municipalities are: Alcalá de Henares, Alcobendas, Alcorcón, Aranjuez, Arganda del Rey, Boadilla del Monte, Brunete, Colmenar Viejo, Daganzo de Arriba, Fuenlabrada, Getafe, Las Rozas de Madrid, Leganés, Madrid, Moralzarzal, Móstoles, Parla, Pinto, Pozuelo de Alarcón, San Agustín de Guadalix, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, San Sebastián de los Reyes, Altorciado
Of the 9,512 active cases of gender violence registered in the VioGén system in Madrid, 4,197 are being followed by the National Police, 2,015 by the Civil Guard and 3,300 by the municipal police of the 32 municipalities integrated in VioGén.
UFAM of Torrejón de Ardoz
The City Council of Torrejón de Ardoz has been the last of the 32 municipalities of the Community of Madrid incorporated into the VioGén system. The delegate of the Government and the mayor, Ignacio Vázquez, signed the protocol on June 14, 2022 at the Consistorio torrejonero. With 130,000 inhabitants, Torrejón was one of the few large cities in Madrid that were not yet integrated into the system.
In just eight months, both the National Police and the Local Police highlight the excellent functioning of the VioGén system, which in the city has 302 active cases of victims of gender violence. The National Police is responsible for the monitoring and protection of 255 victims in Torrejón and the Local Police of 47.
