The delegate of the Government to the Community of Madrid, Mercedes González, visited today the Border Control Post (PCF) of the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, located in the Air Cargo Center. The delegate has been accompanied by the director of the airport, Mario Otero Andión, and the management team of the PCF, dependent on the Government Delegation, with whom she has toured the Areas of Health (External Health and Pharmacy) and Agriculture (Animal Health and Plant Health), which also have facilities at the foot of the runway.
This PCF carries out inspections of import and export products that leave or enter Spain through the Madrid airport. Among its functions: the guarantee that products of animal and plant origin for human consumption have all the sanitary precautions, the control of the entry and exit of medicinal and cosmetic genera and the monitoring of biological samples for research. Also, the import and export of live vegetables and animals, imports of products of animal and plant origin for human consumption, control of live animals, products for animal feed or attend to possible international health emergencies.
The competences in the field of external health correspond to the State and in the Community of Madrid they are exercised through the Government Delegation, on which the Border Inspection Posts depend. These posts operate mainly at the Madrid airport, although they also operate at other border points located in the Community of Madrid, such as the Puerto Seco de Coslada (international road transport) and the El Abroñigal station (for rail transport).
