The National Police, in a joint operation with the Civil Guard, has dismantled a criminal group dedicated to the hydroponic cultivation of marijuana. It is a network, located mainly in the Cañada Real, specialized in the cultivation and distribution of large quantities of this narcotic substance. A total of ten searches have been carried out in different buildings in Madrid, Arganda del Rey and Coria (Cáceres), in which more than a thousand marijuana plants, five firearms and more than 75,000 euros in cash have been intervened.
The operation began last February, with the investigation of a family clan settled in the Cañada Real Galiana, dedicated to the cultivation, collection and distribution of marijuana, as well as the sale of cocaine and heroin. They exercised tight control over a large sector of plots in the area, taking over the houses through occupation or through coercion of their inhabitants, people with few or no resources.
This criminal group was perfectly structured, in different strata and its members were specialized in the different tasks they performed within the organization. At the top, there were those responsible for the control and distribution of the substance. The lowest step would be occupied by those responsible for making the illegal hooks to the electricity supply and the care and custody of the plantations. The remaining framework was occupied by those in charge of the maintenance, cutting and preparation of the substances, as well as contacting the buyers.
With this operation, five plants for the cultivation, maintenance, collection, drying and sale of marijuana have been dismantled, as well as four important distribution and sale points for cocaine.
Group specialized in hydroponic cultivation
The members of this organization were specialized in the hydroponic cultivation of marijuana. The peculiarity of this type of plantation, is that it does not need soil or fertilizers for planting, which allows cultivation in interior spaces, ingredients that facilitate the hiding of plantations.
The operation culminated at the end of November, with the arrest of 31 members of this organization, who are charged with crimes of belonging to a criminal group, crime against public health, illegal possession of weapons and fraud of electric fluid. After the arrests, the detainees were brought to justice, and five of them, all belonging to the upper echelon, were ordered to be immediately imprisoned.
